How does rick and morty season 6 begin sets up season 7

Rick and Morty The arc is officially set in the sixth season of the long-running animated series, and the final moments of its finale have set the stage for the next phase of the series that begins with the seventh season! Speaking to me earlier this year ahead of the Season 6 finale, showrunner Scott Marder revealed that the team was already writing the backstory for Season 8. Season 7 is even more exciting. Season 6 seemed like a setup, and season 7 really does feel like the payoff.

The end of Season 5 brought with it a new setting for the series, and one that was set in stone with the end of Season 6. Rick and MortyThe Season 6 premiere introduced a new villain from Rick’s past, Rick Prime, and after teasing more about the villain in the finale, the series is now gearing up to hunt down Rick Prime in the series’ seventh season.

What’s coming in Season 7 of Rick and Morty?

In the Season 6 finale, “Ricktional Mortpoon’s Rickmas Mortcation”, Rick decides to open up more and let Morty in on his search for Rick Prime. It was revealed that he had been searching for the villain in secret, and Morty was so upset that he eventually got Rick to let Morty into the project. Then, jokingly speaking to the audience, Rick says, “The catch [Rick Prime] Destroy me, Morty. But now we will do it together. You and I, Morty will control your life. Rick and Morty season 7, hunt my enemy.”

Elaborating beyond the fourth wall, Rick continues, “Maybe he’s trying to stay healthy while doing it. Juggling paintings. Not every episode, Morty. It could all be happening in the background, who knows? Nobody would, except us. It’s the most painful thing that’s ever happened.” I had to deal with it, and I’m the king who brought you to him because you asked for it, Morty. You and I, Morty.”

That’s definitely the hook for fans of Season 7, whether or not it was a blatant joke at the fan’s expense hoping to get that sort of thing. Season 6 has spent its run exploring a new kind of status quo for Rick and the Smith Family, so season 7 could be where a lot of it starts to pay off. With so many episodes already confirmed, and the fanbase enjoying the narrative connections, we hope there’s more to this overarching story to chew on.
